Passoscuro, the Coastline of La Dolce Vita

Not everyone knows that Passoscuro beach, north of the Roman Coast State Nature Reserve, was the setting for the final scene of Federico Fellini’s La Dolce Vita. In a local trattoria, the first meeting between two characters who would later become part of cinema history was also filmed.

Thanks to its slightly secluded position and its distance from the busiest residential and commuter tourism routes, Passoscuro offers a more unspoiled coastline, with preserved coastal dunes that are now rare along the more crowded southern stretches of the Roman coast. Here the sea retains a more authentic, almost silent character.
